Yo! My name's Kazuya Minegishi. I'm just your average boy... or so I thought! As it turns out, my world has a demon infestation problem, and guess who got roped into taking care of it? That's right. It's your boy.

Don't get me wrong-- I'm no hero. I'd rather be listening to cool music on my MP3 player than summoning demons. But hey, when the fate of the world and my friends is on the line, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.

Pretty cool, right? I'm so cool. I've since ascended to the throne and become the King of Demons. All the demons in the world now bow to me. I may look like a lanky boy, but I've got so much power and hunger for human souls.

That's a good attitude to have when it comes to something like that. It doesn't make it easier to deal with, though.

Ah... Honestly, I don't know too much about them, but they were a gang called the Shibuya Daemons. I ended up crossing paths with their leader a few times, a guy named Kaido. Not exactly the kind of person you'd call a good guy, but he was well respected by his gang, and he did try to help people out where he could.

But he also had a pretty nasty mean streak too, if someone messed with the people he cared about or his gang.

Hn. . . so the kind of person who would fight to protect the things that were important to him, right?

[takes another bite of his crepe, idly lifting a hand to wipe a bit of whipped cream from the corner of his mouth. none of the arcade games must be interesting to him at the moment, because he isn't stopping to play any of them]

Did you ever wind up fighting him?

I don't know if that's it, but it's not wrong either. He values strength above all else, but he's not so nice as to not pick on people he thinks of as weak.

Of course I won. If Id lost, Id have had to give up my only means of self-defense. I couldn't let him win.

You mean your ability to summon demons?

[ As someone not playing the game, Kazuya is very much content to eat his crepe at a much slower pace, finding a comfortable spot next to Akria as he gets ready to play. ]

Yeah. But before I became the King of Bel, I had to contract the demons I could use first, and had to summon them with something called a COMP. I've since lost my comp since I got here, but I retained my ability as King Of Bel to summon demons as I please without the need for one.

[also it should be noted that even though the controller is just a fake gun, Akira holds it like someone with more than a passing familiarity with firearms. he flicks through the menu options quickly to start the game proper, squaring his stance as he aims the barrel of the controller at the screen]

But that does remind me. I've been meaning to ask you which demons you rely on the most.

[since they're supposedly similar to his Personas, he is curious about any possible overlap. or if Kazuya has demons he has never seen as Personas before!!]

If you're asking before I became King of Bel, then probably Garuda and Fafnir? Though Behemoth was one I often used too, since each race of demon have their own uses, especially in combat.

[help that response. Akira huffs in light amusement, head tilted slightly to the side as he watches the game start up in earnest]

What's Behemoth like?

A large hippo-like demon. Who is surprisingly fast, despite what you might think. Exceptionally strong physically, and really good at taking a hit or twelve.

[ Whoa.... nice shot. Kazuya has no faith in his own ability to hit the shots that Akira is. He'd definitely be the weak link in a 2-player game... ]

Kresnik is one of the few demons I'd trust, though he was helping out a friend of mine, so it's not like I could just call on him without putting her in danger.

[for some reason, Akira's mind drifts to Ganesha and Girimekhala. . . neither of them are hippos, of course, but they are a duo of tanky assholes who made navigating Okumura's Palace a bit of a nightmare]

Kresnik. . . hn. That's another one I don't recognize.

[peering curiously at Kazuya out of the corners of his vision, though most of his attention is-- of course-- focused on ZOMBIE SLAUGHTER]

What was he doing for your friend?

Keeping her safe from the other demons roaming around. Apparently they'd entered a contract together even before Tokyo was stuck in the lockdown... Six months prior to it, even.

[So taking Kresnik away from Mari would have put her at risk, even if Kudlak had already been destroyed.]

It was only after everything was settled that Kresnik then helped me fight against the angels and God... Though it's not like I really gave him a choice.

[He likes to think that Kresnik would have helped anyway, even given a choice. That just seemed to be the kind of demon he was.]

[and then, after a pause, he continues super casually, as though he is not gently prying for more information, trying to see what Kazuya is and is not willing to share about his adventures. because admittedly? Akira has been curious about them ever since his companion alluded to having made the choice to become Demon King to save humanity]

Actually. . . how'd you get involved with demons in the first place? That's not something your average student usually has to think about.

[neither are Shadows and Personas, Akira!! but that is neither here nor there]

No, all demons have to obey me, unless they otherwise have contracts. Kresnik and Mari fulfilled their contract to each other before I became the King of Bel, but he still stuck around to help her fight off other demons.

[Good news for Akira, because Kazuya is fond of him. Has been ever since his first arrival. It means that he gets to be privy to information that Kazuya doesn't quite care for other people to have.]

A combination of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and scheming on my cousins behalf. Though if it wasn't for that scheming, my friends and I would have probably been demon food long before we found out what was going on.

[aaah. . . so it was the power of royal persuasion. that makes sense]

[said with a tiny bit of humor while another zombie explodes in a low-definition spray of red pixels on screen—]

That makes it sound more like "right place, right time" to me.

What was going on? Something so huge it could affect not only the entirety of Tokyo, but the whole world?

[It's something he doesn't want, but has to have regardless, and he's made his peace with that. Even still he shakes his head.]

It's kind of a lot to explain, and I really don't know where I'd begin. I think I told you that the lockdown lasted a week, but demons had been coming into Tokyo prior for at least six months, and even a few years before that, the government had forcefully pushed a new PSE law that effected electronics, which meant they'd been in contact with the Angel's for some time.

[Kazuya sighs, and shrugs.]

I guess it was mostly that because demons were summoned to Tokyo, the angels got involved. And because the barriers that had protected Japan had been the weakest, that meant the stronger demons who were vying for the throne could come through too. And they had to, actually, to take the last remaining piece of Bel that was found only in the human world.

[Which would be him!]

Akira doesn't even try to hide it: the way his features immediately twist in distaste, brows furrowed, gaze narrowed. . . and the particularly aggressive shot he takes at one poor shambling zombie on the screen. when it's put like that. . .? it sounds like Tokyo— and Kazuya in particular— were just. . . caught in the middle of some stupid conflict that didn't even involve them]

[he may not have the same overt distaste for demons that Kazuya seems to have, but. . . Akira can't stand gods and deities and supernatural beings who think they can overpower humanity to satisfy their own fucked up goals]
