I... I don't want to hurt anyone, but if it means protecting someone, I'd do anything.

( He leans upwards then, pressing a brief kiss to Kazuya's cheek, gentle and appreciative. )

But... thank you. And, even if you don't need help when it comes to a fight, I'll always be here to help you.

[ Slowly, he relaxes against the other, sighing softly through his nose. ]

I know. There are things you can do that I can't. I'll rely on you for them.

Heheh, I don't know about that. It feels like you can do anything.

( He smiles, bright and genuine.

Though, he pauses for a moment. He doesn't really want to misread the situation. )

... Kazuya, uhm... W-Why did you do that before?

[ Really, if only that were the case... ]

[... Did he do something? ]

( For someone so intelligent, things need to be really blunt for him...

A hand moves to his forehead then, cheeks hot. )

Well, uhm--

K-Kiss me.

( It was a small way to show affection, but something that spoke volume to him. Maybe Kazuya is a bit like he was -- affection came naturally where his friends were concerned for someone like Basil, but that's not the sort of person Basil thinks he is, either. )

Oh.

[ He pauses. ]

Because I like you and enjoy your company?

[ Maybe Basil will be shocked to know that Kazuya is free with his affection, and that touch is his way of showing it. Though he thought it was probably obvious, from the way he leans against him, or holds him tight when they share a bed. ]

Do you not like it?

N-No, uhm--

( He likes their nights together -- the way that Marigold and Kazuya both keep him company. It was always more than enough to help keep any previous insomnia away. )

It... feels right, being with you. It almost feels like that's how it's supposed to be.

That's what you want, right?

[He'd made it clear before, and now a little time and distance makes it easier for Kazuya to accept- and return those feelings. More so now that it's not on the tail of Basil's original partner leaving.

He nods, slowly.]

I'm alright with it, but I can't promise anything like monogamy, if that's a dealbreaker.

[There's still other people he loves, after all.]

( Basil responds immediately, looking shocked at his response. That's not what he meant. He doesn't want to force anything on him. )

I-I like you, but-- it's not just about what I want! It's... important if it's what both of us want...

I wouldn't be telling you this if it wasn't something I wasn't alright with or didn't want. I just wanted you to know, that's all.

[??? Is it that surprising? He literally spoons him at night...]

( So did Kel before they became an item. Basil's perception of relationships is a bit different.

He reaches for his hands then, gently taking them into his own. His heart is beating so quickly in his chest right now. )

I just want you to be happy, Kazuya. If it means that being with more than one person can do that than... that's alright.

( He used to not really understand someone wanting to be with more than one person, but there's other people he loves here. There's some people he'll never stop loving. )

I'm happy.

[ That was never in question. Would having the people he loves most here make him even happier? Of course. But to say that he doesn't think of the other with intense fondness would just be untrue. ]

And I love you, just as much as I'd love any of the other people I'd want to be with.

( The words come so easily, and the smile is genuine. Though, he does pause. )

There’s… someone else I love, too. I’ve always loved them. But, things between us are really complicated…

That's alright, I'm not the type to get jealous, so you don't have to worry about that.

[Really, that much should be obvious considering what he'd asked of Basil, though perhaps there might be more selfish people out there than him.]

Complicated or not, I'll support you.

Ah, I guess that makes two of us…

( Gently, he intertwines his fingers into the other’s. It doesn’t really feel as though much has changed, but — )

[He squeezes their fingers together gently.]

I'm glad that I was able to make you happy.

( Kazuya’s hand feels as though it fits within his. His heart is racing, and he wonders if the other can hear it.

He just hopes that they can continue to make one another happy. That’s all he wants. )

Do you— uhm….

Want to try kissing again?

( At least he’s asking this time. )

I'd normally say yes, but...

[Well, he nods slightly to the cat snoozing peacefully in his lap. Turning might be a bit awkward unless Basil is the one who leans in.]

Oh! It's important not to wake her up....

( Cats are the priority, after all. )

[They are the priority! It's a good thing Basil seems to understand that...]

( Basil feels the way his cheeks heat up then. Kazuya seemed so calm and confident with what he was asking, and that somehow made him more nervous when usually, it would help bring a sense of calmness.

Still, he shifts a but then, a hand moving to Kazuya’s shoulder as his eyes lift to meet with his — tilting his head a bit and leaning in to press his lips against the other’s. )

[It's nice, kissing Basil like this, but the truth is he really, really doesn't have any experience, and so he leaves it to the other to lead, pressing back like he's seen on tv, but that's just it.

It only takes a few seconds before he starts laughing, if only because he knows he's probably bad at it.]

Sorry... I've never actually kissed anyone before.

( When he pulls away and starts to laugh, Basil can’t help but wonder if he did something wrong, cheeks flushing. It’s only when he speaks that he can’t help but smile in return, resting his forehead against the others. )

It’s okay… It’s still new to me, too.

We can take our time, though. We— should go at a pace that you’re comfortable with.

( But, it’s nice, he thinks. Kissing Kazuya feels nice, and as natural as everything felt when it came to him. )

[Another laugh, and he leans his head against Basil a little more, since he can't quite do anything else with a cat in his lap...]
