Not a doppelganger or illusion. That's a Shadow they've fought plenty of times in the Metaverse.
Haru freezes when she notices it from a short distance, her unable to budge and go further as she watches it rip at the dead rat. ]
... ah.
[ Why is a Shadow here? Did she somehow step into a cognitive world without realizing it? Her environment is the same as ever, and she doesn't have her actual phone, with the EMMA app and its Metaverse Navigator abilities. ]
[Orthrus swallows the rat. Wipes at his mouth. Kicks a back leg as he scratches behind his ear.
Completely normal dog things.
Until one head notices Haru, and locks on. The other follows suit, though turns slightly in confusion before his body stands. The demon doesn't move fast, clearly unbothered, unconcerned by a human, but he does have a job. And that job is to make sure no one suspicious or dangerous causes problems here at his King's home.
She doesn't look particularly deadly, and so, with a slow, confident stride, the demon approaches.]
[The noise that Orthrus makes as he's suddenly shot at is definitely a loud, startled yelp. Loud enough to be heard from the inside of Kazuya's cottage, where he rushes out to see the scene of Haru and a demon, laying into his own demon, who suddenly decides to snarl and retaliate at what is now a clear threat.
Quite frankly, it's all gone to shit in a matter of seconds.
Kazuya scrambles forward out the door, heart beating rapidly, because if there's a demon fight, he would really rather it not be on his front lawn, for one. And for second, he'd rather not involve a demon that he may-or-may-not have control of.]
Wait- Stop!
[Well, at least Orthrus' Maragidyne fizzles out, the wounded demon only turning one head towards Kazuya as the other snarls viciously at both Milady and Haru.
[ The rush of battle has already filled her heart; Haru doesn't stop just yet, Kazuya's presence inciting further panic and the desire to protect him from Orthus.
Orthus seems to back down... why?
Is this her chance? ]
Kazuya-kun, please run escape! It's dangerous!
[ Milady flaps her fan as a warning; Haru steps toward her Persona, pointing at Orthus. ]
[He's stumbling a little as he clears the distance in haste, though at the pointing, the demon doesn't back down either, simply steps so that it's in front of Kazuya, both heads bowed low and ready to attack, flames licking the sides of it's muzzle as it simply waits for another order.
One attack isn't enough to take the demon out, but that doesn't mean that Orthrus isn't in any sort of pain! It's just that like any demon, or animal for that matter, it hides it well.]
[ She recalls the conversation they first had, about the demons in Tokyo and how Kazuya and his friends were able to... control them?
But that thing in front of her is a Shadow. ]
What do you mean?
[ Milady vanishes in a blur of blue flames. The tension remains in the air, but it's not quite as thick as it was mere moments ago when there were multiple cannons aimed at Orthus. ]
[Well... The first bit of tension is gone when the other demon disappears, but it's clear that the demon is incredibly not happy, a low, reverberating growl echoing from both heads that make Kazuya shiver a little.
Brr... Scary.]
This demon... He protects my home, and makes sure that me and the people who live here stay safe when things go crazy.
[At least, that's what happens according to Basil, anyway.
Case in point, Kazuya does try to soothe the demon, petting down one head and then the other to the base of it's shoulder blades, and it whines a little, though never stops looking at Haru like she's a threat and might try something.]
[ The urge to scratch the itch that is holding a heavy, sharp axe in her hands...
Just for safety, of course. ]
That's a Shadow, Kazuya-kun. It will hurt you, if you are not careful!
[ But even as she says it, Orthus doesn't attempt to harm Kazuya in return. She watches in uncertain awe as Kazuya is able to temper the Shadow down, like it's simply a dog with bad attitude. ]
[... A shadow? It's weird that she doesn't realize that she herself has a demon too.]
He won't hurt anyone, as long as no one is trying to hurt the people who live here, or attack first.
[So he's been told, anyway. Though he really doesn't know who the first one to start the fight between them is, given Haru's urgency for him to move away to stay safe, he can hazard a guess.]
[He has no questions about how she knows, because if she has a demon of her own, then it makes sense that she would know all about his too.]
I'm not really sure the specifics of it, but he belongs to me, like I said. I have other demons, but they're normally stored on my COMP. Orthrus is the only one who can move around freely without me summoning him.
[Kazuya glances at Orthrus, who at the very least has seemingly settled now, giving a "Harumph" sound in Haru's location as he goes about licking his wounds... Rude human.]
[ She isn't ready to strike back anymore, but she hasn't let her guard down either. That's how a Shadow (or demon, she supposes) holds you hostage and forces Joker to give up rare items or yen.
Her eyes flicker between Orthus and Kazuya carefully. ]
text | un: garden05 (before event, pre-memory returning, etc...) cw for anyone: a dog will be shot
un: 🐈🐈🐈 also its fine its a demon dog
ya but my cat is a demon and i don't want anyone shooting her
Are your memories still missing?
i mean your cat, presumably, also does not have two heads, breathes fire, and eats people
And yes, they are.
she might
I want to help, if I can.
[ Maruki having two friends who don't remember him is hard to sit back on. Not when Milady has been returned to her. ]
I know this is all so sudden, but I think I might be able to try something.
hm. cocks gun. cats haunted.
[The people he lives with, even the pets he has...]
And sure! If you think it might help, I'm down to try!
moments before disaster
Are you available now? Please let me know.
[ Wow, this can't possibly go wrong. ]

[Location drop!]
I've just made some macarons, so you're welcome to have some when you get here.

I'll see you soon!

[And it is! She just has to get past the big, fire breathing two headed dog that's the size of a lion, if not slightly bigger.
One that is on the front porch, both heads seemingly fighting over who gets to eat the dead rat it found...
It's horrific. It's like that one scene from Jurassic Park 2 with the guy getting eaten by two t. rexes.]

There's no mistaking it.

[ It saw her in broad daylight. There's nowhere to hide, to jump to for safety.
She has no choice. If this Shadow is roaming around, it's also a threat to Kazuya. ]
Milady!
[ Her Persona appears in a bright explosion of pinks and blues and rose petals, swirling around Haru.
There's no hesitation. Orthus was never a strong Shadow to begin with, but it doesn't mean she'll go easy on it.
Milady's dress lifts and reveals an array of guns. ]
One Shot Kill!
[ And immediately begins unleashing rapid fire on Orthus. ]

Or does he? He's oddly calm about it all. ]

Then again, he had been pretty lax about that conversation in the first place. ]
