I got better over time. It got easier and easier to anticipate the moves of the demons coming after me the more I fought them, but some are just a league of their own if you've never encountered them before. And then there's ones where they just simply reflect the damage you're trying to do back at you.
[He's cleaning his shirt first... Might as well use currently clean water to wash it free of grime, and then the time it's spending drying to clean the rest of the place and prevent more grime from sweat sticking to it, right?]
Sometimes I forgot to check the COMP, or just forgot what their deal was only to get hit right back. It definitely happened less and less as everything went on, though. Mistakes get way too costly otherwise.
[Especially when it's your life on the line, and your friends may not have enough magic left to patch you back up after a fight, or at least, not all the way. It's certainly happened.]
It was a real pain if only one of them sent your attacks back at you while the others were weak to it. Sometimes you just have to take the gamble, unfortunately.

[It's par the course - the way Kazuya operates similar to Akechi's own modus operandi. Attack, and remember. Attack, and conquer. Attack, and dodge. Take risks for the thrill, for necessity, and remember because death in that reality is as permanent as any other.]
It's fortunate you were so skilled then. Despite your injuries, you still have a good spirit about it.
[Wow, he's already sick of cleaning. This is rag is dirty after only a couple swipes - ugh.]
The adaptability required for such a life - I can't fathom how tiring it must be.
Kazuya nods, wringing out grime from his shirt where he can. Yuck... At least it'll hopefully smell mildly better now that its being cleaned.]
You learn fast, when things want to eat you. It might have been a little more fun if our lives hadn't been on the line, but that's how it goes for something like that, doesn't it?
[A pain...]
The worst part is not all of these are from wild demons. Sometimes other demon tamers would attack. Usually thugs and gang members, but there were a few cops in there too. Guess that goes to show you can't really trust the people you thought were there to protect you sometimes.
It's an unfortunate fact that those in power will choose to enact it over you, more often than not. Even police are not immune to such things. Those who shirk their duty should be stripped of their power entirely, but that's not what happens. Unfortunately, in an unjust world, you have to be your own advocate and hope those around you follow protocol and justice.
[In his line of work -
He often sees how little they do to help. Even Sae has lost her way from the constant battle to prove herself.
Akechi's own false life a mockery of justice, but he never cared for it anyway.
The phone buzzes in his pocket - a text from some rando. An out provided from having to clean more.]
Ah, I have to go now - my apologies I couldn't assist you longer than this.

He wets the rag - starts to wipe down one of the many, many dirty parts of this shithole.]
Perhaps you're in need of a dodging lesson. [A beat.] Kidding, of course. I can't imagine it was easy to fight as much as you did.
