Yo! My name's Kazuya Minegishi. I'm just your average boy... or so I thought! As it turns out, my world has a demon infestation problem, and guess who got roped into taking care of it? That's right. It's your boy.

Don't get me wrong-- I'm no hero. I'd rather be listening to cool music on my MP3 player than summoning demons. But hey, when the fate of the world and my friends is on the line, a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.

Pretty cool, right? I'm so cool. I've since ascended to the throne and become the King of Demons. All the demons in the world now bow to me. I may look like a lanky boy, but I've got so much power and hunger for human souls.

Digging how, exactly?

[ He didn't have to do any of that! But the help is more than appreciated, especially if he found some information. ]

Well, less digging and more... [He taps the side of his nose.]

I've got some pretty keen senses, since I became a demon. I followed the scent that person left on the coat... Which was pretty weird, because it stopped and started and just straight up vanished a few times, until I finally found out where it went. It took me days to track it down.

Is there a reason why you did that?

[ All that, she means. That's a lot of effort, Kazuya! ]

Because you seemed really concerned about her, and I wanted to see if she was still around somewhere in this place, in case she was someone I had to worry about for you.

[What he means is, he was going to protect you, if it came down to it! Who knows what that lady could have wanted...]

I'm touched.

[ That's sweet, honestly! Weiss will have to return the favour some day, even if he doesn't seem to need protection. She'll at least try to do something nice for him soon. ]

Am I supposed to expect good news or bad news?

I'm... not really sure? Creepy news, at the very least.

[ How far is the walk! Doesn't matter, Kazuya won't elaborate further than that, because he wants Weiss to see it with her own eyes.

So ending up at the print shop is a go. ]

Oh. Change my name on the papers. I almost forgot. If it's a demon contract, it should probably say Abel instead of my human name.

[ Prrrobably not very far! They go down the lift, then head to the mall area. Maybe ten minutes tops.

It's a good thing Kazuya tells Weiss about yet another amendment though, because she's about to fall in line at the shop! She stops in her tracks and accesses the file on her watch again. ]

Just Abel? I can't use Kazuya at all?

[But like, Kazuya clearly isn't a fan of that name? Judging by the face he makes. Also, he's not an asshole, he'll stand beside her in line.]

It wouldn't make sense to use Kazuya, since that's my human name, and Abel is my demon one.

[Remember when he asked? Yeah, there's both of his names, just for her.

She's going to definitely use his demon name when she's mad at him, isn't she...]

[ She'll go fix that real quick, then! And then she sends the file to the shop's email address to have it printed out. She signals the guy at the counter that she needs two copies of it, too. ]

You sound like you don't like it. [ Which is weird. It's understandable if you don't like the name you were born with, but... ] Did you not choose it?

[ How does one get a demon name ]

It's kind of a whole story. [... Though probably less long of one than the whole lockdown was.]

The cliffnotes version of it is that it's technically my original name? Because of reincarnation stupidity. But as far as I'm concerned, that was a different person, and they're dead, and have been for thousands of years.

[And ergo, not technically him. So the distinction between the two of them is important, at least to him.]

[ Okay, she gets it! Sort of. It's like with Ozpin and Oscar... ]

Your consciousness and his aren't in the same body or anything, is it?

[ As he said, Abel's been dead for years. But it's probably best to confirm.

Once the documents are printed, Weiss asks for two folders so she can sort one copy into one, and the other copy into another. She then takes Kazuya's hand to lead him to a nearby table and hands him a pen. : )]

No, nothing like that. Sometimes I get flashes of memories of his though? But it's kind of like when you have an old memory about something, and the details are fuzzy.

[And a lot of them involve petting or sheering or butchering sheep anyway. ]

I actually didn't have any of those memories of his until I ended up absorbing more Bel demons in the first place.

[Sort of like Abel's memories had been in some kind of stasis until then.

Kazuya will take his pen, reread the contract to make sure it's up to par.... And sign it!]

I see. I can't imagine that's convenient, especially if those memories start flashing in your mind while you're doing something.

[ She'd be pretty annoyed if it happened to her, tbh. ]

There's a... man, where I'm from. He was one of the people from the world before Remnant came to be. It's been centuries since he died, but his soul lives on in bodies of other people. So... just imagine a man with two souls, I suppose?

[ Which just so happens to be the title of the fairy tale that story was inspired by! Not that that is important.

Weiss signs her name on both contracts once Kazuya's signed. She looks at him and gives an awkward smile. ]

I guess this is where you start calling me Master Weiss?

It's a little inconvenient sometimes, but that sounds way more inconvenient. I think I'd go a little crazy with a dead guys voice in my head. It's already crowded enough in there with all the other Bel demons.

[But he waves his hand, and gives a big, performative sigh.

And does it again as she says that.

He'll grab up the contract in his hand, hold it up and... It bursts into black flames, and Weiss might feel like something overly warm is tightening around her for a few brief seconds before the sensation goes away.

He's looking at her with one red eye, and one blue one now.]

[ She was about to snap at him for destroying??? the contract, but there's that. . . weird feeling. It gets her to stop, makes her shoulders ride up while her whole body tenses up. When the sensation goes away, it's as if she could breathe again. ]

[ That was what she was going to tell him earlier, before she got interrupted. Her voice is less angry and more concerned now, though. ]

Magical contract. It's to ensure that neither of us can back out for any reason. Just keeping it as a piece of paper won't do.

[ But he waves his hand. ]

It's why I told out verbal works just fine. What you felt just now was the magic doing It's job.

Anyway. You're not touching this physical copy, then. [ This is hers and she's not giving it up!! In fact, she holds it close to her chest as if to protect it from him. ] This is mine.

I didn't have any plans on touching the other copy...

[But, as if to make a point, with another wave of his hand, the other copy that had been burned up reappears in those same black flames, in pristine condition.]

Besides, this one never got destroyed... That'd be silly.

... You're just doing all this to get a reaction out of me, aren't you?

[ This is yet another one of those "YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME" moments. ]

It is a little funny.

[ He admits with the tiniest of amused smiles. ]

But it wouldn't make sense to destroy a contract you're magically bound to. That'd cause all sorts of problems.

And I worked hard on it!

[ She put a lot of time into it, okay!! But they seem to have that over and done with, at least. They can get going now! ]

[Oh! Yeah, that's right. He was going to show her...]

We can either walk, or I can try and teleport us there.

[Try, because lets be real, those hallways were pretty twisty and turn-y, and he only has a little bit of information to go off of on what seemed like an ever-changing location.]

If you get sick easy, it's probably best to walk.

I can't say I enjoy the very idea of teleportation, but sure. We can do that.

[ That would make things faster! She's just not too keen on the idea because it's so absurd. Fortunately, she's not one to get sick easily. ]
